AMD’s RX 6000-series is a huge release for 2020 that promises tremendous performance gains over the RX 5000 series. It’s so huge in fact, that this massive announcement is a large part of why I’m holding off on Nvidia’s Ampere.
With all of the size puns out of the way, Big Navi is really living up to its name with the newly designed triple-fan setup. 2020 must be the year of adding more fans because both AMD and Nvidia have now added +1 fans to their reference models.
In case you missed it, news broke last week stating that AMD will be hosting 2 separate events in October that’ll introduce their CPUs and GPUs respectively. On October 8th, they’ll be unveiling their new lineup of Ryzen 4000-series (Zen 3) CPUs; then on October 28th, they’ll be hosting their second event with the purpose of showcasing the RX 6000-series (RDNA 2) GPUs.
In terms of official naming, pricing, and specs, it’s all up in the air right now. It will likely remain this way until we get closer to AMD’s showcase event at the end of October.

One thing is for sure, with Nvidia’s recent announcement of their Ampere-based GPUs – 2 of which are launching within the next week – waiting another month for AMD to reveal what’s up their sleeve is going to seem like an eternity.
